Another week, another release day mixtape, and more time at home.
Dang, there’s a lot to get through this week on the pile of new releases and singles. As always, I’ve made a playlist to help out but here’s some thoughts from yours truly about what I’m excited for.
Otherwise, hope y’all are staying home and healthy and taking care. Shit’s bleak out there and it’s been incredibly hard to keep in a good mental state but I’m tryin’ so I hope everyone reading this is too. Music helps, honestly. I’ve featured this album’s singles on a few release day playlists gone-by, but the new one album of riff-heavy and catchy indie/punk act Violent Soho is out; their last few records were quite addictive so I’m sure I’ll end up spinning this one a lot too.
In 2014 I was heavily into the album Picture You Staring by TOPS, but their follow-up Sugar at the Gate didn’t grab my ears as immediately. They have a new one out today called I Feel Alive and it sounds very interesting and quite diversified to me upon first listen, so I’ll be giving that some time.
Peel Dream Magazine’s EP Up and Up was dope, so their new full-length is high on my list of to-listens today. Tossed a track on the playlist that is giving me major Stereolab vibes which pleases me.
There’s also a lot of stuff on this playlist that I’m vaguely familiar with (I liked Anna Burch’s Quit The Curse in 2018 but can’t exactly recall too much about it at this point so I’m certainly going to dive into the new one) as well as new-to-me-but-sounds-good-so-far (a fuzzy-shoegazey track from Sorespot, aggro-hardcore punk from Cold Feet, blown-out post-punk-pop of Es, and a catchy angular tune from Stuck) plus some oh yeah, they got a new track?’s (RJD2, El Ten Eleven, Born Ruffians)
