New releases, thoughts, singles and more.

Happy new music Friday. I’m about 40 songs deep into my new release playlist and I feel like I’m still missing a lot from today’s new albums and singles. How about you, are you listening to anything new that has been scratching a musical itch? Please let me know - I’d love to hear more recommendations, and also more of what you’d like to see in this space. Feedback me up, people!
For now, here’s some stray thoughts from today’s stack of releases:
Bent Arcana’s self-titled release grabbed my ears immediately. Featuring members of Sunwatchers, TV On The Radio, Oh Sees, Feels, and more creating self-described “off-the-cuff musical compositions.”
Clock of Time’s debut album Pestilent Planet was another one that perked my ears up with today’s morning coffee. According to the Bandcamp description this lands only 8 months after their debut gig.
Other Half’s Big Twenty is post-hardcore/indie-punk out of the UK, and it has so much attitude packed into its melodies that it seems they’re living up to the “Nasty music for nice people” line they have in their bio. I have a really good feeling about this one.
Naked Giants’ The Shadow grabbed my eyes with its album art - pressing play on “Walk of Doom” solidified that it was one to add to my listen-pile today with wirey power-pop and all over the place back-and-forth hooks.
What I’ve heard so far today of J. Zunz’s Hibiscus blends minimal, repetitious kraut-like electronic soundscapes with punctuations of dusty noise and soaring vocals. This sounds like one to get absolutely, completely lost inside.
And now, here’s the whole playlist for the day. Enjoy, and let me know what you’re spinning.
That’s it, that’s all. Be excellent to one other.
