a beginning
Happy release day! Above you can find my latest playlist of new singles, and tracks from brand-new albums that are deserving of your attention. I try and do this every week on Friday mornings. You can follow along with me on Twitter if you’d like. Otherwise, here’s some more things to put in your ears today. Enjoy.
Half Sour’s “Sticky” Out Now On Fire Talk Records
Major vibes abound on this new one from Boston natives Halfsour; huge fuzz, deep hooks. Go buy the vinyl if you know what’s good for ya.
The Glow’s “Am I” Out Now On Double Double Whammy
Give the record a listen, right here. Michael Caridi’s new record (post-LVL UP disbanding) is a fuzzed-out but eclectic indie-rock affair. Give it a whirl and let me know what you think.
CHUM-FM Ad, “A day in our life.”
If you’re not a Toronto native, this might mean less to you, but our television and radio stations used to be very different in a really good way. I love this funky newspaper ad for CHUM-FM shared by 12:36 on Twitter.
Hierophants’ “Spitting Out Moonlight” Out Now On Anti Fade Records
Tripped out indie-rock with late-70s synths and a dollop of art-punk - but beamed down from somewhere unknown so it all sounds a little askew. Wanna buy it? Here you go.
Water In Your Eyes’ “Break”

Listen here: https://waterfromyoureyes.bandcamp.com/album/break-freaking-me-in
As a near-ten minute cascade of hypnotic, driving rhythm with a jazzy chord progression laid on top, Break sounds like a late 90’s house track having an intense anxiety attack while Rachel stands by and sings it to sleep. With an album coming later this year, Water From Your Eyes are certainly not ones to sleep on.
Crumb’s “Ghostride” Single, Plus “Nina” and “Part III”
Crumb’s EP “Locket” from 2017 was one of the most promising releases I’ve heard in years. The brooklyn act has continued that streak with a series of singles, all three of which are collected here (the latest being “Ghostride.”) If you’re not clamoring for more Crumb, I don’t know what to say to you.
That’s it for this week from me. Sign up for more - I should be trying to send one of these out a week, but maybe I’ll get ambitious… who knows.
