A mixtape for 2020-08-04
Hope everyone had a good weekend out there. Lots of ups-and-downs over here, but I put together another mixtape in what seemed like record time. This one is a mix of a few records I’ve already written about elsewhere on the tab, plus lots of new discoveries and more. A few stray observations before we get into it:
Crafted Sounds is a really phenomenal label and they reached out to let me know that this album “Vines” by Buddie was coming out and might be up my alley.
Holy crap, is it ever! It has that sort-of-progressive-indie-pop thing going on, without dipping into a full-on indie-orchestra sound… songs stretch out and buzz with depth while maintaining a totally catchy bliss. Just try “In Aquamarine” on the mixtape if you don’t believe me.
Some last-minute additions to the mix include some arty, noisy post-punk attitude via P22 plus a jangling, snarling rock tune from Crasher off their “Traitor EP.” These were the first first-listens of the week for me.
