New stuff, new news, and whatever else I'm listenin' to!
As always, here’s my playlist of new music out on today’s date - a sprinkling of both single tracks out now and brand-new full-lengths. Let me know what you’re listening to (or if I’m missing out on something major) via twitter please!
Here’s some more notable musical items for you to peruse today - I hope you have a good Friday y’all.
Kevin Nichols’ “Long Lungs” EP
This EP totally shreds? Like, Kevin Nichols is killing it on these four songs.
Crumb featured in Pitchfork interview feature
In continued “I hope Crumb takes over the entire shitty world” news, check out this dope interview they did with Pitchfork. Seriously though, this band is so legit and they’re destined for big big big big things.
DOE Calls it Quits
This has been on the cards for a while now and whilst it’s a 100% mutual/amicable/positive decision, it's still very sad as this band has been a bigger part of our lives than we could ever put into words.
When we started Doe back in 2013, we met as strangers who had no idea what kind of journey we were about to embark on, we just knew we wanted to throw ourselves in head first and make as much noise as possible, whether people were listening or not. 6.5 years on and we are ending this journey as best friends who’ve had the privilege of taking our weird not-quite-indie, not-quite-punk, where’s-the-bassist-i don’t-get-it music all over the place, not just in our home country or even home continent, but the other side of the Atlantic too.
We’ll all be continuing to make music in various forms but for the time being, we really hope as many of you as possible can come out to the final show and party with us one last time!
Discovering Doe’s “First Four” compilation on Rdio is one of my very favourite online-music-discovery moments, it was just what I needed in that exact moment. Grow Into It was one of my favourite releases of 2018, easily. I wish nothing but the best to the members of this phenomenal band, and you can bet that whatever they go onto next in the world of music is going to be something to look out for. <3
Purple Mountains’ “All My Happiness Is Gone” sounds A LOT like a Promise Ring song
I mean, I guess you be the judge? But yeah… it really does.
1980s Canadian thrash act gets new chapter 30-years later
I absolutely love news like this…
That intro on the track “Nocturnal Serenade”…. shit yeah, dude. Play it loud.
Meeting Malkmus: A Pavement Podcast
If you’re a pavement fan, you should check out this podcast, Meeting Malkmus, by one of my very good friends Jamie Dew. One of the hardest working dude’s I know, not only in the world of podcasting but also the mental health sector. On the podcast he’s going through every Pavement song in chronological order, and it’s just delightful. Follow him, share the show, and listen up!
As always, share the newsletter, follow me online, let me know what you think and I love feedback so please please let me know what you think. I want this to be as useful as possible and not to clutter anyone’s inboxes so the more feedback the better! Thank you for reading this far!
