New Music Friday: February 14th, 2025
New day, new tunes, new playlist.

Apologies for the day-late post!
Here’s what I’m seeing in the bin that is catching my ear, with an attempt to organize by genre:
Post-punk, Art Rock, Indie Rock, etc.
DWELLEY’s debut comes from members of Deafheaven (among others) and gives me a big-time Pinback vibe. Sounds great!
Loving the new Horsegirl. This time they’re calling to mind more bands like Yo La Tengo, The Raincoats or bass-driven ("Well I Know You're Shy") 80s-influenced collegiate underground pop
Oddly from Kyoto play shoegaze-tinged indie/alt/rock/etc. and it sounds good to me so far too.
Vulture Feather features members of Don Martin Three and Wilderness… which gets you part of the way there, since at its core this feels like an overlap of a certain strain of emo and "theatrical" indie rock music.
Faerybabyy is listed as Darkwave, Post-punk, Cold Wave, which is up my alley.
Also notable: Frog, Quinine, CATHEDRALE, Love Is Noise, Kestrels
Hip hop:
Black Milk & Fat Ray, Westside Gunn
Avant-garde, Minimalism, Experimental etc.

Heavy stuff:
Obscureviolence looks like death metal, sounds like death metal, so you know I’m going to listen!
