New Music Friday: June 28th, 2024
New day, new tunes, new playlist.
Hey y’all, hope you had a good week. It’s time to dive into this week’s releases and see what catches my ear. No pick of the week today because I haven’t listened to anything all the way through yet, haha.

It has been 6 years since cupcakKe released their last album, so I’m excited to hear Dauntless Manifesto. They’re mostly known for how explicit their songs are, but I feel like sometimes that element of their music overshadows just how incredibly clever their bars can be. They also have a nice-streak that I really appreciate, like on the pro-body image “Aura”. The lead-off track of the new record is a massive banger, but I’m not sure about some of the songs I’ve sampled so far like the acoustic-pop of “Water Balloon”. I’m pro-artists working outside the confines of their assumed genre though, so I’m going to give it some time.
The Virginity album out today comes via Smartpunk, a record label that has been pretty consistent the past couple years so I’ll check that one out sight unseen based on that alone.
EXEDO is another one I’m unfamiliar with but it’s out on Dirt Nap Records and the small bit that I sampled of it this morning sounded really cool; angular, garagey, kind of sneakily epic (“Signs of You”) so I’m intrigued.
