New Music Friday: November 15th, 2024

New day, new tunes, new playlist.

Happy new music Friday! A rare day where I have no picks of the week, but rather a stack of albums that I want to get to and that seem up my alley. Seems like a particularly interesting day for heavy stuff and out-there/ambient/etc. kind of records to me.

• If you like indie rock:

  • Morpho, Deaf Lingo, Straw Man Army all sound nice to me and will be on my list of records to check out. The latter had a year-end contending album in 2022 so excited to hear the new one.

  • A bit of a mix of heavy and indie stuff, there’s a release from Secret World that has me wondering if Drug Church-core is now an official genre? Not complaining. See also: the emo-grunge of Mud Whale.

  • Tippy tappy mathy emo band Tiny Moving Parts have a new one out there today as well.

• If you like heavy stuff:

  • The Full of Hell release seems to be on a lot of new release lists out there today. Also releases by Veilburner, Ignorance, Mammoth Grinder, The Mosiac Window, MUGGER and more.

• If you have more out-there tastes:

  • I’m in a bit of a mood today so I think my main priorities this morning will be the Earthen Sea and Agile Experiments albums. The former sounds ambient and textural in a way that scratches my brain nicely so far today.
