Happy new music Friday! Hope you all had a good Halloween and aren’t feeling too sick from eating left-over candy (not that I would know anything about that….)
Going to try and make organizing my notes by genre a thing I do with these posts, so here we go:
If you like indie rock:
Very stoked to hear the new What Gives album after writing about the singles in a previous post. Big crunchy power-pop with wee-oo-wee-oo synths is my jam so I anticipate loving this. Features members of Annabel, Dowsing, and Elway.
I got a chance to hear the new Big Nobody album a few days before release and I can tell you a) it’s traffic and b) it’s a real step up for the band who were already good previously. Really excited to spend more time with it.
Was not anticipating a new release from Cincinnati, Ohio band Team Stray, who last released music in 2013. Really dug their 2008 album Gender Studies back when it came out, so this was a blast from the past to be honest. Will definitely check it out.
One album that sounded promising upon a quick sampling was the Pet TV record.
If you like heavy stuff or punk:
Seminal post-hardcore band Planes Mistaken for Stars release their first album since 2016 today. This is their final recorded material with singer Gared O’Donnell, who passed away in November 2021.
Thirdface’s album Do It With A Smile was a year-end lister for me so obviously I’m stoked for a new one from them.
Cryptic Brood has the kind of album art that will get me to check out a record, so there’s that.
More on the punk spectrum of things, but very interested in hearing another record from Night Court! Great band.
If you like hip-hop:
Multiple releases from Westside Gunn are out today, as well as Freddie Gibbs.
What are you excited to listen to? What am I missing from my list? Let me know!
As always, please reach out on the hellsite (or the newer lesser evil hellsite). Better yet join the Rosy Overdrive Discord server where I can be found now and again. You can also find me in the corners of Rate Your Music scrounging for obscure emo, hardcore, indie-rock and pop-punk.
