New Music Friday: November 8th, 2024

New day, new tunes, new playlist.

Happy new music Friday! Not much to say here today as an introduction, but definitely a mix of new-to-me stuff and some familiar faces in the new releases bin. Here’s some notes:

• If you like indie rock:

  • Girl Scout have released another EP (their 2023 Real Life Human Garbage EP was a highlight that year). Their catchy indie rock fits the short format really well and what I’ve heard from this release continues their streak of very good, catchy indie pop rock music. RIYL: Beach Bunny

  • Numero Group have released a collection of Washington, DC’s Tsunami’s output - including three records plus a ton of other tracks. A phenomenal band that you should check out if you haven’t already.

• If you like heavy stuff:

  • Ritual Error is one I found in the bin this morning on a whim, sounds like some good post-hardcore to me.

  • Molder’s Catastrophic Reconfiguration is a classic “the name and album art means I will try this one out” addition to the playlist.

• If you have more out-there tastes:

  • The Bad Plus are one of my favourite modern jazz bands so I am very excited to check their new record out.

  • There’s a number of releases that caught my ear today with more eclectic genre sounds, including: Florian Weiss’ Woodism, GLOK/Timothy Clerkin, Mulatu Astatke & Hoodna Orchestra, Greg Foat, Claire Rousay and more.

Plus, a lot of new-to-me stuff in the bin today that sounds intriguing, including: 22 Halo, Chimers, Tofa, eat-girls, Good Sad Happy Bad, Florian Weiss’ Woodism, Sassyhiya, Bananagun and more.

And that Refused tribute record has a stacked list of contributors so I gotta check that out.
