You ever get into a rhythm where your body starts waking you up at like 5AM, and it happens enough days in a row that it just becomes a thing that happens no matter w hat? “I don’t want to wake up yet” you think but your body is like yeah, you’re not falling back asleep buddy so get used to it.
That’s where I’m at right now. At least today, it gives me some time to dig through the release bin. This week was a bit of a blur for me - starting a new job will do that to ya - so I didn’t post much here, or on Twitter. Haven’t has as much time as usual to do my listening and sharing routine.
As usual, here’s some thoughts on what I’m seeing out there this morning. Please let me know what you’re listening to, what I’ve missed, and any recommendations you may have on Twitter.
Mourn continue to be one of the best bands doin’ it imo. Their self-titled album in 2014 didn’t light my ears ablaze, but I absolutely loved 2016’s Ha, Ha, He and their 2018 album Sorpresa Familia continued in that tradition. Is it just me or are they a little underrated? Do we underrate consistency these days?
Todays new-to-me! pick has to be Felicity Groom’s Magnetic Resonance Centre. The second track “Backwards Forwards” caught my ear with its skittering drum pattern, lush atmosphere and twinkling melody.
Moxiebeat’s Pop Sounds wasn’t on my radar until today either, but the Californian hardcore band’s album sounds right up my alley - plus, recorded by Jonathan Nuñez of Torche!
Other notable albums on my pile today include: War on Women, Dope Body, Floating Room, Sinai Vessel and Tobacco.
Here’s the playlist - hope you find something to enjoy!
That’s it, that’s all. Be excellent to one other.
